ENGLISH SMART


RULES OF ENGLISH SMART COMPETITION


Participants : Elementary School students (4th – 6th grade).

  • Each school may send maximum 2 teams ( 1 team consists of 2 people)

  • Each participant may only participate in one competition.

Slot         : 30 teams.

Outfit : Neat and polite school uniforms.


  1. This is a team-competition. Each group consists of 2 people, which are:

Clue giver : the one who gives the clue to the other member. Clue giver can only   say ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘maybe’, ‘can be’ and so forth.

Guesser : the one who guess the word on his/her head.


  1. The participants are not allowed to:

  • Use other languages aside from English.

  • Demonstrate gestures imitating the style of the questioned object.

  • Catch codes from the audience.

  • Give instruction to give an answer.

Any participant who does one of these will be disqualified.


  1. The competition consists of 3 rounds, which are:


  1. Preliminary Round

  • Stage I

  • All teams will guess a given word based on the categories written on the board.

  • There will be given 2 minutes for each team.


  • Stage II

  • The teams that continue to this stage are those who can guess the word in stage I. 

  • The team will guess a word based on the categories given. 

  • There will be given 2 minutes for each team.

  1. Semi-final Round

  • The teams which are competing in semi-final round are the 5 fastest teams who can guess the words correctly.

  • Each team will guess 5 words in one category in 3 minutes.


  1. Final Round

  • The teams which are competing in final round are the 3 fastest teams who can guess the word correctly.

  • Each team will guess 5 words in one category in 3 minutes.


  1. The word which is going to be guessed is chosen by the participants.

In semi-final and final round, the participants are allowed to say “pass” if they cannot guess the word. The question will be repeated later.

  1. The guesser may not guess the word by asking the order of the letter.

  2. If there are teams that have the exact same time, each team will be given an additional word to determine which team is going to compete in the next round.

  3. During the competition, the words may not be seen by the audiences.

  4. During the competition, only the participants are allowed to be in the competition room.
